The 2023 college football season is in its championship week. The action got underway on Friday night at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas with a huge showdown between No. 5 Oregon and No. 3 Washington in the Pac-12 Championship game.
Bo Nix and Michael Penix Jr., both candidates for the Heisman Trophy, had a prime-time stage to make a lasting impression on voters, and the rivals were probably competing for a spot in the College Football Playoffs.
The fact that this is the final Pac-12 game as it currently exists serves as the background for everything that is going on although the conference name may endure in some capacity, all of the participating schools, with the exception of Oregon State and Washington State, will be moving to other conferences for the upcoming season.
While their respective state rivals work to keep the Pac-12 alive in some capacity through an affiliation with the Mountain West, Washington and Oregon will face off against each other in the Big Ten Conference.
This game was every bit as thrilling as the thrilling one in Seattle earlier this season, when Washington defeated Oregon 36-33. On Friday night, Washington jumped off to a 20-3 lead,
but Oregon replied with 21 straight points to grab the lead. After that, it was a fight to the finish, with Washington emerging victorious in the end.
