Jaguars' Zay Jones charged with misdemeanor domestic battery

Florida’s Jacksonville — According to an arrest and booking record, Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Zay Jones was taken into custody on Monday and charged with misdemeanour domestic assault following an alleged altercation with his child’s mother that left her with a neck injury.

At 2:20 PM ET on Monday, police were summoned to an apartment in Jacksonville. The woman said she was there to visit Jones and their child. The lady said in the arrest report that Jones got angry because she intended to take their child back to Orlando, and they got into an argument.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officer reported in the report that he saw multiple tiny scratches on the victim’s neck that were consistent with marks from a fingernail, despite some facts about the alleged battery being censored.

Following his arrest, Jones faced charges of first-degree misdemeanour domestic assault causing bodily harm. It was Monday at 6:03 p.m. ET when he was checked into the Duval County Jail. Following his initial court appearance on Tuesday morning, he was granted a $2,503 bond and subsequently freed from detention on Tuesday.

In a statement issued Monday night, the Jaguars stated that they were aware of the circumstances, were obtaining information, and would not be providing any more commentary.

Due to a right knee injury, Jones has missed six games this season, including the last four. In three games, he has two touchdowns and five receptions for 55 yards.
